The Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA) course is designed to equip staff with the skills and confidence to recognise, prevent and safely manage challenging behaviour in the workplace.

This PMVA training focuses on early warning signs, dynamic risk assessment, communication skills and practical de-escalation techniques. Emphasis is placed on maintaining personal safety, acting proportionately, and preserving dignity at all times.

This Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA) course is suitable for:

This course complements training such as Safe Administration of Medications and Epilepsy Awareness

On completion of the PMVA course, learners will be able to:

  • Recognise early signs and triggers of violence and aggression

  • Understand common causes of challenging behaviour

  • Apply effective de-escalation and communication techniques

  • Carry out basic dynamic risk assessments

  • Maintain personal safety and appropriate positioning

  • Understand post-incident actions, reporting and staff wellbeing

Refresher training is recommended every 2 years or sooner if workplace risk levels change.
