Our half-day Cardiac First Response Community course is designed to give participants the knowledge and skills to provide CPR to people in Cardiac Arrest.

It also covers the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) safely

Anyone who wants to be trained in CPR and Defibrillator skills. This is especially important for those working in the healthcare sector such as nurses and those involved in social or residential care.

On completion of this programme, participants will be able to:

  • Provide treatment for preserving life or minimising the consequences of injury until the arrival of medical aid
  • Understand the responsibilities of CPR and Defibrillator use

  1. Module 1: Basic Emergency Care – On completion of Module 1, the student will be able to recognise the signs of a life-threatening emergency and can initiate basic life support to the person who collapses or is choking. The student will also learn the indications and administration of Aspirin.

    Module 2: Accessing and Use of an Automated External Defibrillator – On completion of Module 2, the student will be able to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) without delay in accordance with the appropriate PHECC CPGs.

    Module 3: Safety and Communication – On completion of Module 3, the student will be able to activate the Emergency Medical Services and communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals in the continuum of care for the patient.

The course is highly interactive with the DVD based theory being followed by a demonstration, practical tasks and assessment of individual skills.

Continuous Assessment throughout the course. Students receive a  Certificate in Cardiac First Response community on completion. The certificate is valid for 2 years.
