Our 1-Day Emergency First Aid Course is designed to give a basic understanding of what to do in an emergency situation on the work floor or at home.

This course is designed as a back up to the First Aid Responder in the workplace.

Who Should Attend this course

This training is aimed at anyone who wants to be trained and certified as an Emergency First Aider and deliver emergency first aid

Course Objectives

On completion of this programme, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the responsibilities of the Emergency first aider.
  • Provide treatment for preserving life or minimising the consequences of injury until the arrival of medical aid.
  • Provide treatment for an injury which does not require the attention of a medical practitioner or nurse.

Course Programme

  • Module 1: The role of an Emergency First Aider – On completion of Module 1, the student understands the role of the First Aider and knows how to effectively ensure the safety of the first aider.
    Module 2: Patient Assessment – On completion of Module 2, the student will be able to assess a patient for (life-threatening) injuries and to perform a secondary survey to find out what happened.
    Module 3:  Basic Life Support – On completion of Module 3, the student will be able to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and knows the principles of resuscitation.
    Module 4: Wounds, bleeding & Shock Management – On completion of Module 4, the student will be able to deal with blood injuries. As well, be able to recognize the different types of wounds and know how to treat them.
    Module 5: Common Medical Conditions – On completion of Module 5, the student will understand the treatment of common medical conditions such as asthma, seizures, anaphylaxis and diabetes.
    Module 6: Trauma Emergencies – On completion of Module 6, the student will be able to perform emergency first aid to treat trauma-related injuries such as fractures, dislocations, burns and scalds etc.

Methods of training

The course is highly interactive with each theory session being followed by a demonstration, practical tasks and assessment of individual skills.

Assessment & Certification

Continuous assessment throughout the course. Students receive a PSTC Certificate on completion. The certificate is valid for 2 years.
