Our half-day Manual Handling course will show your staff how to carry out tasks correctly and therefore avoid back injuries. To comply with current Safety Health & Welfare at work acts.
Staff engaged in handling must be given training in safe handling techniques. By training your staff on how to conduct manual handling safely, you are complying with your legal requirements.

This is not an instructor’s course.
This training is aimed at anyone who is engaged in manual lifting in their job
On completion of this programme, participants will be able to:
- Lift and handle loads safely.
- Recognise a load which is too heavy or awkward.
Module 1. Health & safety legislation – By the end of this module you will be able to list your requirements under the relevant health & safety legislation
Module 2. Spinal structure & injury – By the end of this module you will be able to list the structure of your spine and ways it can be injured undertaking manual handling tasks
Module 3. Fitness for work – By the end of this module you will be to describe why fitness is important in relation to lifting tasks
Module 4. Ergonomics & risk assessment – By the end of this module you will be able to describe what ergonomics is, also list the components of risk assessment of lifting tasks
Module 5. Safe lifting & handling principles – By the end of this module you will be able to list the 8 principles of safe moving & handling and demonstrate a range of tasks.
The course is highly interactive with each theory session being followed by a demonstration, practical tasks and assessment of individual skills.
Continuous assessment throughout the course. students receive a PSTC certificate on completion. The certificate is valid for 3 years.
